POTD 043009 - Transformation

The entire purpose for my newly planted bed of sunflowers? Photos. And here they begin. Expect more. Does anyone want sunflower seeds? We don't eat them and well we are going to have 16 Mammoth sunflowers in our backyard. Expected size? 12 Feet! Just for the photos because well, that's what makes me happy!

Too Tired To Post

POTD 042309

I'm tired.
I'm going to bed at 8:33PM
Does that make me old?
Probably.

Just wanted to say I'm glad April is almost over.

Looking forward to the fresh start of May,
more photos in the garden,
and sharing what I've learned about flash!

Happy 30th Anniversary!

Ian's Preschool celebrated its 30th anniversary today. It is the oldest nonprofit parent cooperative in California! I helped put together the silent auction which was really a lot of fun. The event was great, dinner after the event even better. And to wrap up the entire evening I "won" the silent auction for a 12 person private wine tasting at a local winery. Any one want to join me?

Look Mom!

"I'm a sunflower for you. Pick me!"

Without prompting. Without even asking for a photo. All his own doing. Should I be worried or really proud?! :)

Master Of The House!

Running around, playing, soldier and goofing upstairs with Ian tonight ended in a pile on the bed. I said to Ian, "we're a good family aren't we." He replied "yes" and got that funny little look when he's got an idea brewing. "We need a family picture," he announced.

Well, when the three year old requests a family photo everybody moves fast! I ran downstairs. Grabbed my camera, tripod, and flash. Back upstairs where Shea was entertaining Ian so we didn't lose our opportunity. By the time I got the tripod set up and the camera attached Ian said he was done. Just a quick little suggestion that he play soldier and stand on top of us was all it took. So here we have it. The first official family portrait in at least a year! And the first one that wasn't taken by me holding the camera out and cutting off some part of my head! I think it says a little about the order of things around here! And yes, I could have removed the roof line, but then I thought maybe someday we'd want to know just where our bed was and just what a fun attic room we had. I did crop out the nightstand stacked with goldfish, water glasses, books and other stuff!

Oh and just in case you want to see the mess, here's another take. I thought Matt K's 300 Preset was a good choice!

I have to thank my dear friend Myra for the photo session idea! She has taken some great photos with her son using her remote. We used the self timer which wasn't quite as effective, but worked in a pinch! Guess what is on my list of gift ideas for Mother's Day?!

The Boy Loves Worms

We spent the entire weekend digging in the garden! Ian loved transferring worms to the garden beds and kept going back to check on them. It was a beautiful warm day perfect for being outside and soaking up the heat.

Especially exciting to know in 50-75 days we will have
Sweet Corn
Mammoth Sunflowers
Beefsteak Tomatoes
3 Varieties of Heirloom Tomatoes (including a black one!)
Strawberries
Squash
Green Beans
Bell Peppers
Carrots
Soy Beans
Okra
and more!

After much needed baths for a dirty crew we are exhausted and off to bed! More tales from the garden soon!

TGIF!

A long week ending with a home day with Ian! Perfect way to end the week. We had a great day playing, looking for bugs, going to the park and then a long nap together! Those are the best days!

He gave me a little gift of napping longer than I did so I got to play with this photo.

He Knows What He Likes

POTD 040909 - Read, originally uploaded by katrina.kennedy.

Ian asked for Halloween books before we even got to the library. Once there he knew EXACTLY where to find them and EXACTLY how to pick them out from the others. The kid LOVES Halloween. I encouraged reading some Easter books but he would have none of that. Is my child the only one who is so focused on one holiday? Should I worry?! ;-)

*************
After 5 days cooped up inside, I was able to go outside today! I almost feel normal...almost. I'll be so appreciative of feeling good again. Thanks for all the well wishes!

Explanation Of Absence

Did you think I disappeared? Well, I guess I did. For the last week I've felt puny. Started with losing my voice and feeling tired, nothing else. Thursday in class I could barely speak by the end of the day. Over the weekend I just got more and more tired. No voice. Achey all over. Tired out with the simplest activity. (like going upstairs one time to get laundry or walking the ten steps into the garden to see the progress being made) Monday I felt no better and had to cancel class for fear I wouldn't be able to stand in front of the room for 7 hours. I inconvenienced 25 people attending and 5 other instructors who now have to adjust schedules so I can make up the day before the rest of the certificate program goes forward. Yesterday I slept all day hoping to make "it" go away. Last night I resorted to Nyquil and sleeping in the guest bed (aka the bed Ian doesn't sleep in). I can't recall a time when I drank the green liquid joy of Nyquil and didn't have positive immediate death like sleep results. Not last night. Awake every 1o minutes. Frustrated. I just kept thinking I took Nyquil! What the heck! This morning I woke up, feeling worse than I have in the last week, marched promptly to the phone and called the doctor. Mine is out of the office until the 17th so I said, "I don't care who sees me. Just give me who ever is available the earliest today."

After waiting for what seemed ages I was finally seen. My fears of getting the worst doctor ever, who else could possible have an opening an hour after the office opened during a sick time of year, were not realized. She was actually as delightful as anyone can be when you have a fever, achy bones, and just want to curl up in the corner and be done.

Seems I had a virus. And then got strep on top of the virus. Lovely. Quarantined. 24 hours. No contact with anyone outside my home. Not that anyone would want to see my nappy haired crusty faced yuckiness right now anyway.

And Ian through all of this? He continues to give me his blanket so it will "feel me better." What a good guy! See you when they let me out of my house!

Smile and a Wish

Most days this little man makes me smile. Today was an exceptionally good one! We started our day with a coffee and muffin at Weatherstone with Dad as a special it's the last day before spring break outing. Ian and I walked home, he without complaining or needing to be carried, me with my camera in hand. I tried I Spy to no avail as he replied, "I want to do nuffing." So nuffing it was. What a great walk. He found dandelions and had fun both blowing them everywhere and saying their name!

Dad was home by 1PM and spring break began for some of us in the house! He's a happy little man!

Our Garden

From this day forward I'm calling our backyard our garden. It just sounds better as my friend britgirl proves in so many of her posts. Tomorrow we are working on our garden. Maybe photos tomorrow!

It's Official

My class is on the Get It Scrapped calendar :)

Bugs

POTD 040109 - bugs, originally uploaded by katrina.kennedy.

It's Spring/Bug month at school so we dug through toys to find the perfect bug to take tomorrow. I think the cricket is the choice as long as the dinosaur doesn't eat him!
